ובתרגום אונקלוס דין אלקי ואבני ליה מקדש אלקא דאהבתי ואפלח קדמוהי. והנה מה שביאר התרגום דאנוהו הוא מלשון בית המקדש, דהתפלל משה שיבנה לה' בית המקדש, הוא משום דמקום השירה הוא במקדש, וכשהגיע למדרגה של שירת הים ביקש לבנות מקדש שהוא מקום השירה. ועוד י"ל דקריעת ים סוף היה הגמר של הגאולה משיעבוד מצרים, ולכן התפלל משה שזה יביא לגאולה העתידה, והגאולה תלויה בבנין בית המקדש. וכן לגבי מלך המשיח כתב הרמב"ם (פי"א מהל' מלכים ה"ד) וז"ל ובנה המקדש במקומו וקבץ נדחי ישראל הרי זה משיח בודאי עכ"ל, וזהו מה שהזכיר משה בסוף השירה מקדש ה' כוננו ידך, דזה מכוון כנגד הבית השלישי שבו תלוי הגאולה [שלפי רש"י בסוכה ירד מן השמים].
