Description
The shiur traces the journey from Rosh Hashanah through Yom Kippur, Sukkos, and Shemini Atzeres through the Pesukim שאל ממני ואתנה, אחת שאלתי מאת ה׳ אותה אבקש, שבתי בבית ה׳ כל ימי חיי, and לפני ה׳ תטהרו — moving from the opportunity to ask Hashem for anything to the realization that the deepest request is simply to remain in His presence. That request is answered in the Sukkah: כי יצפנני בסוכה, the צלא דמהימנותא, where the closeness of Yom Kippur continues and where the cry of איה מקום כבודו finds its answer in the ענני הכבוד. The entire season thus becomes one unfolding movement from בכסה — concealment and yearning — to בסוכה, Deveikus and closeness, culminating in Shemini Atzeres with עכבו עלי יום אחד, קשה עלי פרידתכם, when Hashem Himself asks for one more day together.
