Description

Did Esther write a megillah? Is the Megillah like a Sefer Torah? May a woman write a Sefer Torah? The debate sparked by the Megillah written by Rebbetzin Sarah Teumim, daughter of Rav Dovid Oppenheim, Chief Rabbi of Prague. The Chief Rabbi permitted it, but his Safra deDayna did not. Neither does R Akiva Eiger. However, the Pri Megadim, Birkei Yosef and Aruch Hashulchan each find independent grounds to be lenient. Beautiful application of the different explanations for Behag's opposition to women reading the Megillah - to this quesition.
