Description

We often speak about performing mitzvos lishmah—for their own sake. But how does that idea apply to tefilla? After all, isn’t much of our davening inherently self‑focused? We ask for health, parnassah, forgiveness, and success. If so, can tefilla ever really be lishmah? How are we meant to understand this tension and how should it shape the way we daven?
