In Yiddeshkeit our mission is to strengthen the right side. So much of what we do and what we work towards is represented by the right side of spiritual reality. The ultimate redemption is called the extreme of the right side. Rav Kook taught the left represents all of the parts of history that lead us to the right-the ultimate destination. Yosef Hatzadik existed in a realm of the left side of spiritual reality, but that came to an end. Oddly, on Chanukah, we light on the left side, this is unlike so many of our practices which are on the right side? This is the question of the Benei Yisaschar. We shared answers from the Shem Mishmuel, the Benei Yisaschr and the Sfas Emes. The Ikar Yesod- the ultimate mission of Klal Yisrael is to make the left side of reality into the right side. This was the amazing spiritual strength of Yosef HaTzadik and of the Chashmonaim and it is what we are tapping in to when we "light on the left".
