What is the definition of LAINING- to LEARN Torah [and thus someone that can't see would be exempt] or to LISTEN to the public Torah reading [and thus someone deaf would be exempt]? This would explain why R' ששת, who some say was blind, turned his back to the laining and learned Torah during the public Torah reading
