This morning (9/18/25), in our Morning Mishlei shiur, we ended up going in a different direction than I anticipated. As usual, we started with a review of yesterday's findings, adding some points here and there for clarification. We then took another stab at elucidating Metzudas David, and although we gained greater clarity, we still didn't manage to figure him out. We then read a huge paradigm-proposing peirush from the Malbim which we attempted to work out. This led us to review one of my favorite passages in Saadia Gaon's introduction, which in turn, led to a discussion of what Mishlei is doing, how it's doing it, and what "mussar" and "tochachah" are in Malbim's lingo. Sadly, we didn't have time to complete our analysis of the Malbim. All in all, we had some great ideas, but no conclusions beyond yesterday's excellent ideas. https://rabbischneeweiss.substack.com/
