בַּחֵיק יוּטַל אֶת הַגּוֹרָל, וּמֵיְיָ כׇּל מִשְׁפָּטוֹ: This evening (5/19/25), in the last Monday Night Mishlei shiur of the 2024-2025 season, we concluded the 16th perek of Mishlei with a whopper of a pasuk! I was glad to see that I wasn't the only one who was bothered by the anomalous and theologically difficult nature of the statement. We came up with more questions than I anticipated, and more ideas as well. After sharing my own approach which I supported with the Rambam and the GRA, we learned Rabbeinu Yonah's context-based approach, then called it a night.
