Both the Rav and Rav Lichtenstein were driven by a need to have a full understanding of the issue at hand and get to the truth. The importance of mesora and connection to the chachmei hamesora were fundamental to who they were. Their overlaps and differences made both of them rabbeim muvhakim to many.
