      Before the advent of tea bags, people would make tea essence in a tea pot and they would pour the essence into a cup of hot water on Shabos. This was also done by everyone in Europe. What about colouring the water? How would this be different than pouring red wine into a cup of white wine.

        In this case you are not intending to color water.The M.B. In 318 recommends even here to put sense first then water in as appears less coloring but that complicates bishul issue
