Description

Midrashei Chazal on Parshas Chukkas discuss the three miraculous means by which the Jews in the desert received their basic needs: They ate Manna - bread from heaven, they drank water from Miriam's well, and they had the clouds of glory to shelter them. The Manna came in Moshe's merit, the well in Miriam's merit, and the clouds of glory in Aaron's merit. The Rebbe explains that these three leaders were able to manifest these three gifts by virtue of their unique spiritual work. But, when Aaron and Miriam pass away, the well and the clouds depart, as Aaron and Miriam are no longer there to manifest them. The clouds and the well return through Moshe's merit. The Rebbe explains that Moshe went out of his comfort zone to manifest Miriam and Aaron's virtue's when the hour demanded that he do so. Tanya 42 teaches that every Jew has an inner spark of Moshe. Therefore the Rebbe concludes, that every Jew, by departing from their comfort zone and doing what the hour demands can manifest miracles for themselves and for humanity.
