      FYI, in his sefer Halachos V'Halachos Rabbi Lamm uses the idea that Rashbi changed his opinion regarding Talmud Torah after emerging from the cave as his main answer to the apparent contradiction between the sugyos. This answer is also given by Sdei Chemed, ( I am still checking that source). I have more to say about this but just wanted to give this source.
