The beginning of the Zionist movement posed Traditional Jewish Leaders with a challenge. Should they participate in building a Jewish state if it meant joining a secular organization of Jews who had rejected religion? Could they compartmentalize their religious and political identities? Rabbi Avraham Isaac HaKohen Kook refused to separate his Nationalism from his Religious Outlook.
