Description

The Rashbam on Parshas Vayeishev & the purpose of his commentary on the Torah. In this Parsha, the Rashbam, Rashi's grandson, presents his sharp criticism of the earlier commentaries who - as the Rashbam claims - neglected פשוטו של מקרא entirely. The Rashbam does not spare his Grandfather of this critique and testifies to the effect that Rashi admitted that had he had the time he would have written a different commentary more loyal to the straightforward interpretation of the פסוקים. We will illustrate some of what the Rashbam accomplished.
