Description

This shiur about the Jewish ethics of material possessions and the attribute of dedicating one's all to the service of Hashem will focus on the connection between the פך השמן of Yaakov Avinu and the פך השמן of the Chashmonaim. The two great miracles of Chanuka, that of the military victory over the Yevanim, and that of the jug of oil will be compared and connected. We will try to understand the statement צדיקים חביבין עליהם ממונם and why does Yaakov endanger himself in order to retrieve the jug of oil? Why is the reward for this act the פך השמן of Chanuka, is this measure for measure and if so why? Why is the Divine attribute of לבדו applied to Yaakov?
