For Masechet Shabbat 106a we will begin our study of the Chiddushim (insights) of the Ramban on מקלקל and מלאכה הצריכה לגופה. How can these two concepts coexist in the same מלאכה? What makes חובל in the case of Milah both a מלאכת קלקול and, at the same time, a מלאכה הצריכה לגופה? The Ramban offers some fascinating insights into the definition of מלאכת גוזז and uses this Melacha as a paradigm for many other Melachot where something is removed from another object and the person is not at all interested in the piece that he removes. How is הבערה in the case of שריפת בת כהן both a קלקול and yet צריכה לגופה at the same time?
