Description
This is a Parsha & Halacha shiur for Shoftim entitled: 'old' and 'new' style bribes: לא תקח שוחד. Is this Lo Ta'aseh limited to Beis Din enjoining the Dayanim from receiving bribes? Or does it apply even outside the courts, in a host of situations where officials and clerks who are gov't appointees have to make decisions for the members of their communities? If it does apply, then it has many applications in contemporary society. Will will address other q's: may the judge receive gifts from both litigants? Is he permitted to accept a gift before and after the case came in front of his court? What about שוחד דברים? Is this Lav a rational משפט or a Torah חוק based on mystical or metaphysical considerations, i.e. a גזירת הכתוב?
