Description

In this Parsha & Halacha shiur for Parshas Emor we seek to understand the Halachik status & validity of Gerut in our time, i.e., in the absence of דיינים סמוכין, judges that have ordination that dates back to the time of Moshe. We will introduce the concept of שליחותייהו קעבדינן, i.e. our Beis Din is authorized by the original Batei Din of סמוכין. What are the parameters of this concept? Does this allow for גירות דאורייתא? One Tos' seems to indicate that Geirut in our time is a Rabbinic enactment and the Geirus is only DeRabanan! Can Geirut in our time be compared to the authority of Beit Din to force a husband to deliver a Get to his wife? The complex issue is ביטול גירות, the possibility of invalidating Geirut if the גר was not sincere.
