Description

In this shiur for Parshas Kedoshim, we will study the mitzvot to revere & honor one's parents, and the relationship between כובוד and מורא. The interdependence of these two can be illustrated by the fact that Rashi comments on our mitzva of מורא here in Kedoshim that women have a more difficult time in fulfilling this mitzva insofar as she is dedicated to her husband and family. This despite the fact that awe (מורא) is a Lo Ta'aseh, i.e. do not contradict your parent, etc., and what difference is there between the son and the daughter in this regard? We will wonder whether מחילה which works for כיבוד would work for מורא as well. Another issue to be addressed: is כיבוד objective and שוה לכל, or is it subjective rather than absolute?
