For our introductory class we ask ‘what’s in a name?’ Is the book called Shemot, Exodus, the book of Geula (Redemption), or simply ‘the second book’ and what might the name express about the core themes of the book? We finish with examining an intriguing parallel between Shemot Ch.1 and the story of the Tower of Babel – offering two different readings as to the meaning of the story.
