Purim

Description

On this night of Shushan Purim, we seek to be inspired by the Midrash & Aggadeta of Megillas Esther. We will attempt to reveal the deeper meaning of the "seventh day when the heart of the King was gladdened by the drinking of wine", i.e. the significance of Shabbos in the Purim story of Megilas Esther. Hava Yonasan Eibschits reveals the brilliance & cunning of Esther in concealing her observance of Shabbos. We will study the downfall of Vashti, and raise the question: was there an element of good in Vashti? Finally we wish to define the mitzva of intoxication and the unique nature of שמחת פורים. Is there a connection between the Simcha of Purim & that of Shmini Atzeres?
