Description

Note: I discuss briefly the question of holding a baby during davening. While the poskim rule that it is prohibited, many women do it. I would suggest that perhaps it can be justified based on the the Mishna Berura's comment (96:6) that if one is afraid that something will be stolen, it is permitted to hold it as not holding it will cause increased distraction, the safe is often true of children. If the child can be put in a crib and the like and be calm, that is ideal. However, if not holding the child will make the parent worry as the child will be crying/getting into trouble, then holding the child would increase concentration, thereby making it permitted.
