Description

The Gemara in Masechet Makkot tells a story of Rebby Akiva & his colleagues who beheld the pathetic site of the Makom HaMikdash in its desolate destruction. Rebby Akiva's reaction is an expression of his perspective on any encounter with evil: 'whatever happens in life is for the good'. This philosophy is personified by R' Akiva. We will study the insight of the Vilna Gaon to the verse in Parshas Vaera. We will see that the philosophy of R' Akiva is formulated by the Mishna as an obligation incumbent upon all and is codified in the Shulchan Aruch. We will complete our study by analyzing two presentations of the great founder of Chabad, the Alter Rebby.
