Parsha:
Balak Pinchas

Collections: R' Charnoff Bamidbar

Description

The opening of the Parsha is very odd. Why begin the story of Pinchas at the end of Parshat Balak? Why not either have both halves in this Parsha or both in the previous Parsha? Why is there a second census in Parshat Pinchas? Didn't we already count the Jewish people at the beginning of the Sefer? And how does the story of Pinchas lead into the counting? We examine the severity of the Jewish people's sin, the impact of the actions of Pinchas, and how it all leads to a critical recounting of the Jewish people before they enter into the Land of Israel. (Part of HaMidrasha at QC, OU-JLIC's Torah learning program for women at Queens College)
