Parshat Chukat begins with the topic of Parah Aduma, the purification from tumat meit. Why is this the opening of the Parsha of the death of Miriam and story of Moshe hitting the rock? We examine how the purification from the tumah of death unifies Parsha as a whole and how it emphasizes the necessity of the transition from one generation to the next for all time.
