Shalom, As a student at Yeshivas Netzach Yisroel (Rameilis) after Pessach in 1974, we experienced Henry Kissinger doing his shuttle diplomacy for disengagement. Rav Gustman ztl was very upset with the pressure Dr K. was putting on Israel and shared that he considered saying Yimach Shemo on Dr K but did not due to Dr. K being Jewish. Rav Gustman was especially distraught knowing that Dr K and his parents suffered through the churban of WW2. Regarding Reb Shlomo Carlebach, I suggest you read the informative book "Holy Beggars - A Journey from Haight St. to Jerusalem" by Aryae Coppersmith.
