Description

We will work thru an essay from 'Hema YeNachamuni' with the goal of understanding the paradoxical attitude of the Torah toward the acceptance of Nedarim. The parsha begins with the possibility of Hataras Nedarim. After formulating both the Aseh - the positive mitzva to fulfill one's pledge, as well as the Lo Ta'aseh - the negative command enjoining one from violating his pledge, the Torah presents the laws of HaFaras Nedarim. The latter applies to the father or husband of a young woman. We wish to understand the fundamental differences between these two concepts. Our goal is to understand the danger inherent in the mitzva of Nedarim even when one desires greater levels of Tzidkus. R' Meir & the Rashbi were absolutely opposed to Nedarim.
