For Parshas Balak & Peshuto shel Mikra we will address the statement of the sifri in HaAzinu. Although there were no prphets in Israel on the level of Moshe, amongst the nations there was a prohecy on this high level, namely, the prophecy of Bilam. We seek to understand: what was uniqe about the prophecy of Bilam? We will study the presentation of the Seforno (Parshas BahaAloscha) and discuss the categories of phrophecy and the unique features of Moshe's Nevuah. One element of Nevuas Moshe was comon to Bilam's Nevuah. We will see Baba Batra 14b where there is a הוה אמינא to the effect that the Parsha of Bilam was not written by Moshe! In the last part of this shiur we will study Avos: The disciples of Bilam & those of Avraham.
