Description

For Acharei Mot we will study the Parsha of עריות, as seen through the eyes of the Seforno. We have seen in the past that the Seforno understands that within the context of the history of the 5 books of the Chumash, the Mitzvot are given in the aftermath of - and as a redult of - certain major sins of man. In the case of the sing of the Egel HaZahav, two major areas of Halachic prohibitions are give to Israel to purify their souls so that they can ultimately experience the Worl to Come. These are the Parshiot of forbidden foods (Shemini) and the Parsha of עריות here in our Parsha. The Seforno will divide the עריות into two categories, forbidden relatives & adultery. This will explain the phraseology of the Torah, גילוי ערוה vs. שכבתך.
