Description

In this shiur for Parshas Acharei Mot, we will attempt to define the Issur of בשר תאוה, eating meat, during the period of the Wilderness outside of the Mishkan and to compare this prohibition to that of Adam and his decedents before the Mabul. Our main source is the Ramban here on our Parsha & his chidushim to Masechet Yevamot. Unlike other commentaries who understood our Parsha as referring to the slaughtering of a consecrated animal outside the Mishkan, the Ramban interpreted our Parsha as establishing the prohibition of eating meat, i.e. meat that is not brought as a Korban Shelamim. What is the nature of this Issur? Does an animal have a 'soul'? When does the Torah permit taking the life of an animal?
