In this shiur we wish to present the fundamental principles of בישול עכו"ם. Why did Chaza"l introduce this prohibition? Was it a kashrut issue, or an Issur משום חתנות. The second definition indicates that Chaza"l wished to separate Jews from non-Jews in order to avoid intermarriage. The difference for example would be the case of a מומר; we may have to worry about kashrus since the Mumar is not reliable, but there is no issue of חתנות. What are the conditions that must be met in order for this Issur to apply? How do these reasons & conditions impact on a wide variety of contemporary situations?
