We have just come from the spiritual high of Hashem’s revelation at Sinai, and what immediately follows is Parshat Mishpatim, almost exclusively devoted to laws of property and damages. We’ve apparently moved from the completely spiritual to the completely material and mundane. How can we reconcile this seeming disconnect?
