For the sugya of 'be'ila rishona' on Friday night in Ketuvot 5b, we will offer an overview of the main principles of Meleches Shabbos, including 3 basic פטורים: One, the lack of kavana (intention); Two, a Melacha She'eina Tzericha LeGufa, i.e. where he has full intention for the Melacha but his purpose is not the Melacha but rather another purpose; Three, Misasek, i.e. lack of awareness, the ma'aseh did not happen the way he expected it to. In each of these principles we will mention concrete cases that illustrate the principle & raise the question: is this a unique Halacha in Hilchos Shabbos or a universal Halacha that applies to all Issurim? 2 out of 3 apply beyond the realm of Shabbos, yet have a particular application in Hilchos Shabbos
