Description

We concluded our previous shiur seeking a reconciliation of the contradictions regarding the Geirus of Rut. Did she convert before her marriage to Machlon? Or did she undergo Geirus many years later, well after the death of Machlon, at the time of her journey to the Land? We will study the sugya of גר קטן, the Geirus of a non-Jewish child achieved by Beis Din, a sugya in Masechet Ketuvot. Rav Stenrbuch, in his Sefer Moadim U'Zemanim presents the possibility that Rut's geirus took place when she was a young girl and it was initiated by Machlon & implemented by Beis Din under the law of גר קטן. But such a geirus is "incomplete", and reached fruition many years later when Rut reached גדלות & as a mature woman accepted the yoke of the Mitzvos.
