Description

Within the framework of our study of Geirus, we will raise an important question regarding מגילת רות: when did the geirus of Ruth take place? Before or after her marriage to Machlon? We will present the many proofs from the Megilla, the Targum, and the Medrash, that Machlon married a non-Jew. The geirus of Rut only took place ten years later when Naomi & Rut were on their way out of Moav on the trek to E"Y. On the other hand, there is powerful evidence to support the position of the Iban Ezra that the geirus of Rut took place prior to her marriage to Machlon. How are we meant to reconcile these contradictions? We will leave this question unanswered, but in the sequel to this shiur we will study the sugya of גר קטן and suggest an approach.
