Description
We continue our study of the obligation to judge the other favorably, and focus on the question: how does this obligation apply to a רשע מפורסם, i.e. a well know evildoer. The opinion of Rabenu Yona has it that one should always judge an evil person לכף חובה even if circumstances indicate that "lo and behold" this action was pursued for the right reasons. Rabenu Bechai, on the other hand, believes that we should judge the רשע favorably since the circumstances indicate this. We will try to explain this controversy based upon the following חקירה: is this obligation purely Bein Adam L'Chaveiro, or is there an additional element to this obligation which is בין אדם למקום. We can explain Rabenu Bechai acc to the 2nd definition.
