We will study the status of the city of Chevron & Me'aras Hamachpela in Halacha. Who owns this land? Is it Avraham who purchased the Me'ara with Kesef? Or does the Me'ara belong to Kalev ben Yefuneh and his decsendents? In the latter possibility, by virtue of what Kinyan does Kalev own the land? In the Halachik part of this shiur we will discuss the issue of: is there an obligation to cut one's garments when he sees the Me'ara? In the last part of this shiur we will discuss Machpela from a Hashkafic perspective. We will study the controversy amongs the poskim re: the permissibility to pray at the Me'ara during the period of time when the Me'ara is designated by the Moslems as a mosque. The Tzitz Eliezer takes a stringent position on this.
