Throughout our lives, it appears that Hashem isn't there and therefore it affects our want and desire to connect to him. Everything we do during these days of Elul are in order to awaken Hashems want to rule over us. On Rosh Hashanah, with all the commotion over Hashem's "absence" and man's existence in question, a light of clarity shines down as we yell out 'HAMELECH' thus signifying and confirming our existence and Hashem's rule over us. Rav Weinberger says that an avodah that we can all use to help us in the judgement of these days is to go to a place where we realize we are nothing without Hashem
