Description

For Masechet Berachot 14b, we will discuss two subjects: 1) Reading Kriyat Shema without Tefillin; 2) the requirement of washing for Shema, Tefilla, and Seudah. In the first part of the shiur we will analyze the following question: is the requirement of wearing tefillin & reciting Kriyat Shema a Halacha in the Kiyum of Kriyat Shema or in the Kiyum of Tefillin? What about tzitzis? In the latter part of the shiur we will analyze the question: is the requirement of washing one's hands for Seudah a Halacha of נקיות which can be fulfilled by any act of cleansing, or is it part of the Takana of נט"י for Teruma & belongs to the area of טהרה? We will analyze the controversy bet Rambam & Raavad on this fundamental q' and the נפק"מ.
