Description
For our daily Bein HaZemanim shiur, and as we approach the month of Ellul, we will study the Mishna in Masechet Rosh Hashana that addresses the various disqualifications of a shofar, e.g. a crack or hole in the shofar, or the echo of the sound of the shofar in the case of a shofar that was blown underground. Can the problem of a hole in the shofar be solved by cutting off that part of the shofar? We will study three approaches in the Rishonim to the case of a cracked shofar. Was the shofar completely split into two parts? Can the hole of the shofar be filled in, and if so, what conditions must be met? Does the Torah itself establish a סייג and a גזירה to guarantee that we avoid the possibility of using a disqualified shofar?
