Description

The Sugya addresses the requirement of Kavana in Mitzvot. In the Rishonim & paskim there is a major controversy as to whether or not one can fulfill his obligation in Mizvot without Kavana. The Mechaber takes a clear stand on this issue & absolutely requires Kavana; if one had doubts if he had kavana he would be required to perform the Mitzva a 2nd time to guarantee that he has kavana. This will apply to Shofar, Matzah, marror, & Krias Shema. What about Mitzvot DeRabanan? What about a negative Kavana "I don't want to fulfill this mitzvah?" The Mishana Berura assumes that if one recites a beracha without כוונה לצאת he would not be Yotzeh, e.g. in the case of benching. Moreover, Kavana is required from the beginning of the mitzva to its end.
