Description

We will begin the sugya of Hallel in Masechet Berachot 14a and discuss the issue of הפסקות i.e. is one permitted to interrupt his recitation in order to greet someone who deserves his respect? We will compare Kriyat Shema & Kriyat HaHallel, and learn that althoughteh Rosh equates the two, Rebenu Yona & the Rambam take the Gemora at face value which means that Hallel is more strict than Kriyat Shema. To make sense out of this we will need to breakdown Hallel into three categories; Hallel DeOraisa, Hallel Derabanan, Hallel Mishum Minhag. The last is the most curious & according to the Rambam only applies when recited by the Tzibbur. We shall attempt unralleving the challenging presentation of the Ramban in his critique on the Sefer HaMitzvot.
