Description

For Parshat Pinchas: When does Pinchas become a Kohen? Is he appointed as a kohen as early as the dedication of the Mishkan? Or only after he kills Zimri? Or perhaps much later in the aftermath of the episode in Sefer Yehoshua when Pinchas makes peace between the Shevatim & staves off a civil war? We will study the stages in Pinchas's status as a Kohen. In the second half of this shiur we will study the Hashkafa towards Zimri, the Nasi of Shimon who perpetrated a terrible crime public-ally. Based on the Ramban and the Or HaChaim we will present the thesis that Zimri is the paradigm of עבירה לשמה. Can Pinchas serve as a Kohen Mashuach Milchama considering that he could not do the Avodas HaKorbanos in the Mishkan.
