For Shiva Asar B'Tamuz and the three weeks, we will offer a framework to structure the essence of the mitzva of אבלות ישנה, i.e. mourning over the destruction of the Mikdash. Is this mitzva of Aveilut identical with that of אבילות ישנה, mourning the loss of a loved one? What are the differences between the two categories of Aveilut regarding Tefillin. the study of Torah, marriage (אירוסין), and דברים שבצנעא (marital relations)? In this shiur we will analyze the Mitzva of Aveilut and sub-divide this mitzva into two distinct elements: the מעשה מצוה, i.e. the 11 Issurei Avel, and the קיום שבלב, the fulfillment of the mitva when the mourner experiences an inner state of Aveilus she'ba'lev.
