Description

Many gezeirot were enacted by Chaza"l in order to guarantee that the nation of Israel will remain separate from the non-Jewish population and fulfill the description עם לבדדד ישכון. In this shiur we will study the laws of Bishul Akum. food cooked by a non-Jew, which is prohibited under the category of גזירות described above. Which foods are included under this Issur? What can the Jew do in the situation of a non-Jewish chef who is cooking in a restaurant, hospital, or old-age home? What is the status of food cooked by a non-Jew in a microwave oven? What is the status of snacks and cereals commercially prepared with a kashrus symbol? What about canned, cooked foods?
