Description

What is the Halachik status of non-observant Jews in our time? Do they have the status of מומרים who are disqualified for testimony, the writing of a Get or Tefillin? Do we count such Jews in a minyan? What is the special status of Shabbos observance in this regard? We will study some of the decisions of the contemporary poskim regarding these issues. We will need to define the concept of בפרהסיא, i.e. a public desecration of the Shabbos. Additionally, we will examine the category of תינוק שנשבה, i.e. a Jew who was raised from childhood as a secular, non-observant Jew and has had limited exposure to genuine Halachik Judaism. The writings of the Chazon Ish are very enlightening.
