Description

In this shiur for Parshas Naso we will study the message inherent in the designation - for each Levi - of a particular task. This is the concept of התמנות. Once a מינוי was established, it is a severe crime for another individual, even a Levi, to usurp the role assigned to that Levi. The greatness of an individual is not evaluated by the type of service, but rather by the very fact that the individual is fulfilling a Divine role that he was charged with. Rav Yerucham, one of the Mussar giants of the last generation, takes us back a century ago to the city of Kelm, where the designations were established on Chag HaSukkos for the entire year. Some of the jobs dived out were menial; yet no one would dare to usurp such a job without permission.
