Description
The Rambam in Hilchos De'os emphasizes that since man is very much influenced by his society, it is critical that he distance himself from evildoers and live amongst the Tzadikim and the Chachamin. The Rambam, based upon a verse in Mishlei, advocates that in the absence of any society with a positive influence, one must live in isolation in the wilderness. We will see how the encounter with a Sota, or in the case of the Meraglim the association with immoral behavior endangers the morality of even the most outstanding members of the Jewish society. We will study the novel interpretation of Rabanu Bechai to the words Lech Lecho, the command to Avraham Avinu to re-locate. The personality of the Nazir serves as the paradigm for Jewish society.
