Description

In our study of Masechet Berachot 11a, we will analyze the mitzva of Aveilus including the Issur of wearing Tefillin on the first day of avelus. The Magen Avraham assumes that this Issur is inapplicable on Chol HaMoed since אין אבילות במועד; however we will see that in fact at least three different aspects of Aveilus apply on Chol HaMoed: One) דברים שבצנעה, Two) Seudas HaVra'ah, Three) Nichum Aveilim. We will differentiate between two dimensions of Aveilus: Nihugei Aveilus & Chalos Gavra Shem Avel. The former are suspended on the Moed, the latter applies even on the Moed. We will dedicate a large part of the shiur to explaining the root of this distinction & how, why, & when it applies. The Aveilus of Tisha BeAv will be analyzed.
