In this shiur for Masechet Berachot 10b-11a: we will analyze the Sugya of העוסק במצוה פטור מן המצוה. We will begin by presenting a controversy among the Rishonim re: the case of one who is marrying a widow, is he obligated in Kriat Shema? Rashi reduces the principle of Osek BeMitzva to טרוד במצוה, when a mitzva generates טירדה then one is Patur from a 2nd mitzvah. We will study the controversy bet Tos' & the ran regarding the case of אפשר לקיים את שתיהן, is one required to take a break from one mitzva to fulfill a 2nd if it will not undermine the 1st? What is the nature of the Ptur of Osek BeMitzva, is it a Halacha of קדימה or does it engender a Chalos Patur?
